Summer In The Netherlands

Monday, 2nd July 2018 - Last updated on: Monday, 2nd July 2018

Summer in the Netherlands!

Temperatures have risen, and everyone is looking forward to the summer holidays. The summer’s full of fun things to look forward to.
What to see and to do this summer? Here are some suggestions from Yummy Dutch:

The famous Gouda cheese market!

This one just can’t be missing from the list, can it? Until the 30th of August there’s a weekly market on Thursday from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.. It is advised to arrive early, because it’s a popular event.
Farmers and traders are there to sell and buy cheese the old fashioned way (“handjeklap”, haggling). Enjoy the world famous cheeses and other local products. And don’t forget real Gouda stroopwafels! At Siroopwafelbakkerij Van Vliet you can do a workshop to make and bake your very own.  For more information, visit: https://welcometogouda.com/event-calendar/events

Lowlands festival

Normally we would also recommend Lowlands festival, but because this is a VERY popular festival, tickets to the 2018 edition are already sold out. We feel we should mention this one anyway. It usually has an amazing line-up and marks the end of the summer holidays. Keep it in mind for 2019 and write it down in your agenda! More information can be read here: http://lowlands.nl/english/

Madurodam

Take the train to The Hague central station, and after that, the tram with destination,”Noorderstrand”. It will take you to Madurodam, a theme park with lots of miniature Dutch landmarks. Feel like a giant while you wander around in between wind mills, the Utrecht Domtower and other famous landmarks. This is the place to go if you want to see the whole country in one day. ;-)
And after this you’ll take the same tram that brought you to Madurodam, the one towards Noorderstrand to go to…

Scheveningen beach!

A classic Dutch summer destination. Enjoy the sea, the beach, and the completely updated Scheveningen Pier! Scheveningen beach even has its very own ferris wheel nowadays, that provides an awesome view.

Canal Parade

If you like fun, over-the-top events, you must certainly head to Amsterdam on august 4!
We strongly advise to plan ahead and be there on time. 80 chosen participants line up for an awesome parade. All of these participants are from organisations that fight for equal rights and acceptance of LGBT members of our society. The Gay Pride Canal Parade is a string of gaudily decorated boats sailing on the Prinsengracht canal and part of the Amstel, and attracts lots of visitors each year. Also at the beginning of August: Sneekweek!

If you’re into water and aquatic sports, this is THE country for you. The Netherlands lives and works with water, and so there are also great activities on and around the water. Sneekweek is held in Friesland, one of the northern provinces of the country, and it’s an annual sailing-event. Sailing competetions, fairs and markets, races and shows, there’s lots to see and do!

Yummy Dutch wishes you an awesome summer, and we’ll keep on shipping your orders throughout the summer holidays. So, if you find yourself in the south of France, somewhere in Greece, or perhaps even in Mexico or China, missing your pindakaas, cheese, hagelslag or stroopwafels, have no fear, Yummy Dutch  is ALWAYS here.
